How/when will the demonstration be arranged?

How is the demonstration conducted?
The demonstrator will bring a brand new machine to your home/caravan location. He will fully configure and fit the Shifta to your unit. Once done, this remains set for your unit. He will show you how to fit and adjust the Shifta and then move your caravan/trailer off your property and back on again. You will then be allowed to do the same for yourself. He will then answer any questions you may have.
If at the end of the demonstration, you are happy to purchase, he will leave the Mr Shifta with you on receipt of cash or cheque payments. Please note, we do NOT accept credit cards.

What about insurance?
It is not legally possible for us to insure goods belonging to a third party. Whilst we carry public and employees insurance (Norwich Union), we are not able to insure your caravan for the purposes of the demonstration. You will be covered however on your own caravan insurance.

Can I buy a Mr Shifta3 ex-works?
No, we fully believe that a successful demonstration is a MUST, and therefore Mr Shifta is available only through our network of demonstrators in the United Kingdom. We do however, carry a full range of parts and spares, and these are available direct. However, if you do not live in the United Kingdom, we may still be able to sell you a Mr Shifta, please contact us direct.

What if I'm not sure after one free demonstration?
Not a problem. Our demonstrators will visit your home once under our "Free Demonstration Scheme", but will be happy to make a return visit at a cost of £40 plus mileage incurred.

What guarantee do you give with Mr Shifta3?
Mr Shifta comes with a four years parts and labour guarantee followed by a further two years free labour guarantee. This does not include the battery.As with any guarantee, consideration is given to fair wear, and neglect/abuse are excluded.

What guarantee do you give on the battery?
The semi-traction battery is an industrial battery and therefore has a 12 month guarantee from the manufacturer, currently DETA, as they assume it will be working many hours per week. However, Mr Shifta's of 12 years old are still using the original battery successfully. As with any guarantee, consideration is given to fair wear, and neglect/abuse are excluded.

Why do you use semi-traction batteries?
Shifta Products have always supplied a Semi-Traction Battery, they are made to power electric vehicles. These batteries can last over 12 years if maintained properly.
Leisure batteries are not designed to drive your caravan along the road, they are made for TV, lights, pumps etc. which are low consumption users.

How do I maintain Shifta3?
There is virtually no maintenance required on a Shifta, apart from the normal maintenance one would expect with tyres and batteries on a car.

How do I maintain the battery?
The only maintenance the battery needs is to make sure the electrolyte is topped up and the battery maintains a state of charge. Most caravanners get many months use from a single charge.

What sort of tyres do I get with Shifta3?
Mr Shifta is supplied with a set of standard wheels and tyres which are adequate for most surfaces, Wide/Turf Pro and Chevron pattern wheels are available at extra cost.

How do I remove the wheels on a Mr Shifta?
The wheels are removed simply by a single Allen Bolt. Please remember that Shifta Wheels are drive wheels and are operated by means of a Woodruff key. If you remove your wheels for any reason, please make sure you do not lose the Woodruff keys as your Shifta will not operate until a replacement is obtained. They are readily available from Shifta Products.

What are hitch head castings?
Every caravan/trailer/unit is fitted with some method of attaching the unit to the tow ball on your vehicle. This is normally refereed to as the hitch head. All hitch heads of physical differences and the hitch head casting is fitted to Mr Shifta enable a tight and snug fit between Mr Shifta and your unit. We carry castings for all the well known caravan/trailer hitch heads, however some industrial trailers come with bespoke hitch heads which we occasionally cannot reconcile to a Mr Shifta.

Will Shifta3 fit other/my friends caravan?
Yes, of course it will but the other unit may well have a different hitch head to your own unit which would require a separate hitch head casting, available from Shifta Products. It may also be necessary to set the Mr Shifta up each time its used on the other unit. This usually takes only a couple of minutes with practice. If one unit uses a dry ball assembly and one greased, it would be worth buying a second ball assembly which could also be left configured for the other unit.

I use an integrated stabiliser hitch head that requires
no grease on the tow ball. Is this a problem?
No, this is not a problem, simply use Mr Shifta as you would your own tow ball.

Is Mr Shifta3 easily transportable?
Yes fairly. By nature, mr Shifta's are quite heavy, about 40kg, but will very easily split down into 3 pieces, heaviest being 20kg for transport.

What if I change my caravan/trailer tent/unit?
This is no problem, it is normally only necessary to purchase a new hitch head casting and this only if the hitch head on your new unit is different from the old one.

Can Mr Shitfa turn a twin axle caravan 360 degrees
on the spot?
Yes, but it would be foolish to underestimate the effort required to turn a twin axle caravan round. It is due to the rear pair of wheels having to move sideways as the caravan rotates on the front pair to achieve a 180 degree turn. Mr Shifta uses the leverage gained by being at the extreme front of the caravan to overcome the grip of the rear pair of wheels and our twin wheel drive system does the rest.

What weight of caravan/trailer can Mr Shifta handle? And on what slope?
We are often asked what slope or weight the Mr Shifta3 can cope with. Well, the answer depends very much on your own particular circumstances. Mr Shifta3 has the power to put a 1.5 tonne caravan up a 1-3 kerb but differing surfaces or a light nosewieght can affect the performance. We have never made wild and exaggerated claims on performance, but are willing to bring a brand new machine to your home for you to try on your own caravan.
You are the best judge as to whether Mr Shifta3 is the right machine to solve your problem.

Can I lift the front wheels of my twin axle
off the ground?
It is not recommended by the chassis manufacturers to attempt to raise the hitch high enough to make any substantial difference to the grip on the ground of the front wheels, as it will put an unreasonable stress on the part of the A frame holding the jockey wheel. This can cause distortion not covered under your chassis guarantee.
There is also the problem that raising the front of the caravan automatically lowers the rear end and the corner steadies will most certainly foul the ground if even a slight slope is attempted in reverse.
Mr Shifta is the only mover on the market that does not strain the chassis in any way when moving a twin axle caravan, therefore maintaining its level stance.

We currently have a network of 15 demonstrators working to cover the United Kingdom. We have no demonstrators on continental Europe or elsewhere. Whilst is is our policy to only sell Mr Shifta following a successful demonstration, we realise that this is not possible overseas and therefore ar happy to discuss requirements with you.
